cory about me photo 1

I’m Cory, and (a warm!) welcome to my little corner of the interwebs, dedicated mostly to cooking – with the occasional life-musing/deep-thought/shameless pug-love sprinkled in.  Since I started this blog many moons ago (or more accurately in 2011), a slew of things have shifted and changed, but I’ll do my best to catch you up by using that threadbare idiom “to put it all in a nutshell” and tell you this: I am a former city mouse-come-country-girl turned  San Franciscian turned modern farmer, and, outside of my very scattered geographical whereabouts, I’ve made the journey from stock trader to chef to bakery manager to jewelry designer.  Trust….I’m scratching my head too….but I feel so enriched by my experiences and by the amazing human beings I’ve met along the way, that what else can I say?  I’m embracing this wild ride.

I live with my seriously delightful husband, James, on an avocado ranch in Montecito, which is a tiny but very special little polka-dot of a town snuggled up next to Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez mountains in the Central/Southern Coastal region of California.  We live and work on the ranch where we cultivate avocados and lemons, where I cook (and make loads of guacamole) for my family and friends, and where I design and create my jewelry line, Celia West.

Currently, animals outnumber the humans in our household, as we share our home with a spoiled Queen Puglet, Winnie, and two frisky little black rescue kitties, Waffles (yellow eyes and supremely regal) and Sushi (piercing baby greens and admittedly small and scruffy).  I cook for our not-so-tiny tribe of five as often as I can, and aim to keep all of my meals simple, fresh, interesting, and relatively healthy.  I believe in using only real ingredients (no fat-free or Splenda here folks), and that nothing is off limits and true moderation is key.

Except when there is cheese involved.  Who can exercise moderation in the face of an expertly curated plateau de fromages? If you can, you’re a better human being than I.

Over the past few years, this blog has evolved to be a cooking-slash-life diary of sorts; a way to catalogue and share my great triumphs and tragic disasters slight missteps in the kitchen, our travels, our unexpectedly frequent geographical moves, my life experiences, and any other little things I happen to find, and like.  I hope to have something to look back on for inspiration, self improvement, and general reflection.

I’m so glad you’re here! So let’s sit and eat.  Or chat.  Or both.  I’ll get the wine!

    See ya!

  19. Hi Cory, love your blog, but the typeface you’re using is so difficult to read it’s making my eyes hurt, so I’m afraid I won’t be following – really truly sorry, but it’s like trying to read the bottom line of an optometrist’s eye chart without glasses!

  20. Awesome photography, Cory! Your pictures are beautiful. And your pugs are too adorable! (Sorry to hear you lost Lily Bean.) I visited the mountains of South Korea 2 weeks ago and that was my first time in the mountains! I loved them! Now everyone tells me I MUST go to Colorado. I can see why!

  23. Cory,
My husband stumbled onto your blog about Positano and shared it with me. We honeymooned there last summer and found it to be a magical place. I just started a cooking blog in January. Yours is giving me such inspiration to step up the look of mine! It is a joy to read your posts!

  39. Just found your blog- love it! Hilarious that you call your pug a “puglet” hahaha.

  40. I can’t remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but I’m glad I did. I’m a NYC native who left Brooklyn 19-months ago and settled in Denver. Though I’m 40 minutes away from Boulder, I get up there quite a bit– and I love Cafe Aion. Good luck in SF. I spent a year working there– when I was right out of college and Jamba Juice was just a little company (I worked in their finance department)- and it was a blast! Enjoy what comes next 🙂

    • hi batya! thank you so very much! i am very glad you found me as well 🙂 thats too funny that we have such similar geographical track records! i didn’t spend too much time in denver, but if you have a chance, and you haven’t already, you should check out a restaurant called the squeaky bean – it is to die for. thanks for taking the time to say hello!

  41. I just found your blog and I have to say it’s wonderful! I’ve been skimming your posts for the better part of the afternoon 🙂

  44. Hi Cory, I’ve just discovered your wonderful blog, and will be happily following you now. xx

  45. Hi Cory, I just wanted to say hello and tell you that you have a great site going here. Like you I am a “Foodie” and have been one for well over 30 years. I’ve been in the food business (a butcher/fish monger) since I was 13 years old and I work for Natural food store in the Southern California area. I will be a loyal follower of Eat & Relish, love the site and our pictures.

    Tim @ http://whatsonmygrill.com

    • hi tim! thank you so much for your note….where in socal are you exactly? we are just in the process of moving south (santa barbara), and i would love any recommendations for great local markets. ive managed to find my share already, but i love to hear about new places & people! happy new year!

  46. Hi Cory, I live in Thousand Oaks (60 miles south of Santa Barbara). There is a Whole Foods Market in SB on upper State Street. Not sure where you’re looking to move to, but there is also a Lazy Acres market too that is closer to central SB.

  47. I love your blog. We just started ours (threescooking.com) and I plan on listing some other inspirational blogs. Yours will be on the list. Our household contains two pugs, fawn girls who are both rescue dogs, so it’s even better that you are a Pug Person.

  48. Lovely blog cory and love all the pictures esp your picture :).

  49. Lucky me that I stumbled upon your blog! What a great place with fun and interesting posts. I cannot wait to read more from you! I just started a blog on healthy and happy living. I am so inspired by your own blog and journey. Check me out at http://www.bloomandspark.wordpress/com
